Building Community and Alliances through Drum Talk
Date: Monday, February 6, 2012
Time: 5:30pm
Location: Rocky 200
Drum-Talk-Story is a delightfully inspirational drumsong performance journey of how drums made their way to the Americas. Afia Walking Tree, an alumna of Vassar, (Camille Thomas '90) shares this interactive journey weaving drum-songs, cultural information, personal experiences, audience inquiry, call and response, humor, and affirmations into an artful percussive story which builds into a powerhouse body-drum-song orchestra crescendo that is engaging and riveting!
Afia Walking Tree, M.Ed. is recognized for her restorative facilitation of African Diasporic courses, processes, and performances, internationally. Using drumming, rythm, song, movement, storytelling, ritual, humor, permaculture, and affirmative communication as vibrational vehicles for co-creating with nature.
Sponsored by the Campus Life and Diversity Office/ALANA Programs, with support from African Students Union, Black Students Union, Council of Black Seniors, Caribbean Students Alliance, Poder Latino, Feminist Alliance, and the Queer Coalition of Vassar College.
